My friend Karisse is doing a school in Salem, OR that focuses on injustice and human trafficking. She has brought to my attention another atrocity that is happening in our world. In Brazil children are being buried alive. David Cunningham (YWAM guy) made a documentary about this and at Hakani.org it says the following:
Buried alive because her tribe thought she had no soul. Plucked from the grave at the last moment by her brother. Then forced to live as a social outcast for three long years until sickness and neglect brought her once again to the doorway of death...
This is the story of Hakani – whose name means "smile" – one of hundreds of children who are targeted for death each year amongst Brazil's 200 plus indigenous tribes. Physical or mental handicaps, being born a twin or triplet or being born out of wedlock – all are considered valid reasons for taking a child's life.
A growing number of indigenous people are rising up to fight this practice. But when they seek help from the government, they are told that their children are not protected by Brazilian or international law, and that preserving culture is more important than saving individual lives.
Featuring actual survivors of infanticide as well as those who have rescued them, Hakani is a powerful docudrama that tells the true story of one girl's journey to freedom and a people group's struggle to find a voice – a voice for life.

You can go to the website to learn more or to download the video to hear Hakani's story. I watched just the preview and was crying...I will warn you if you are a mother to prepare yourself. But I have found that to make myself understand how real all of this is I have to go there. To truly understand that there are little girls being prostituted and now buried alive, I have to put myself there...put my daughters there. This may sound gruesome but that is how I reach for the heart of God in these situations. Realizing that these are His children and He sees it daily. It hurts so much more, angers me so much more when I think about how I would feel if it was my daughter. So please check it out, pray, and pass it on. Awareness is the first step towards change.

Yes, you do need to get that pool! I got it at Walmart last year for about $25. Cheap & oh so worth it!!
My heart is breaking! I think it would have affected me had I not had daughters, but because I do it hits home. Those little girls are someone's daughter and the thought of their mother's grieve makes me bawl. Thanks for bringing this to light. You are amazing!
Oh please read them!!! I need someone to talk to about them!!! I can honestly say I have never had such a hard time putting a book down. Not sure why. I don't normally like vampire books. I tried a few Anne Rice and they were okay, but nothing to write home about. I just can't get enough of these. Let me know if you decide to read them. Oh and if you have a Costco near you, they are cheaper there than on Amazon.
I'm so excited for you to come! I can't wait! We are going to have the grandest (and accident free!!) play date EVER!!
