It's Time

Yes, it's time for a new post. I swore I wouldn't let a month go by before I posted again and I made it...by a day. I don't know what my deal is but I've never felt more unorganized in my life. I can't stand it. Time to hit the reset button and get things back on track. I have a feeling I know why this is but I'll write about that another time.

Cause that isn't what the title is about. The title is based on the fact that I have some news. Pretty major news in fact. News that you will have no idea is coming. This news has been in the works since the summer and I'm only now released to share. This news has been prayed about a lot, has been shared with those we trust to give us wisdom, and been hashed about during many a bedtime conversation. Enough suspense...

As you know we've been praying for an at home job for me. And just like it is with the Lord, something completely unexpected fell in our laps. We've chased after a couple of opportunities that never panned out, but God decided to hit this one in from out of no where. And the funny thing is, it isn't even just a job. It's an entire business.

There is a lady who lives in our area who sews bags for cabinet companies. These bags are custom made to fit any size cabinet door. These bags are then used by salespeople to take the bags out to show homeowners. This way, the doors stay protected and the customer sees a more professional presentation. And yes, you heard me right. SEWS. If you had ever asked me if I would be working as a, ahem 'seamstress' (cough, cough), I would have laughed in your face and probably kicked you. And the fact that I've only owned my sewing machine for one year exactly on Christmas, makes it even more comical.

So that is the extremely short version. My father-in-law met said lady, she is ready to retire and needed to find someone who sews and wanted a job: enter me. So I met with her, played with the material, tried sewing a couple of bags, did some orders for her, and BAM! I'm going to be a business owner. I'm still in shock sometimes. I'm scared and nervous and excited and expectant. I really felt like God finally had to say to me, "Andrea, I haven't forgotten about you and your family. I have heard your prayers and look at what I'm going to give you. Now stop worrying about it". This is what it took for me to be able to say yes, we are doing this.

The business officially becomes mine January 1st and I already have two orders waiting for me to start. Carpenter Matt built me a cutting table in the basement and a handy-dandy sewing table in the office upstairs. He's so great. : ) It really is a perfect job for me. I can work when I need to, including evenings and Saturdays, and I can easily be interrupted without worrying about a customer on the phone or being on the computer at all times. I don't have to have any set office hours, I just have to fill the orders as they come! The business has been around for about 20 years and has customers nationwide. I'm hoping to update the website (it's reeeaaallly bad) and get my name spread out a bit more. Otherwise, it's all set up. I just need to take over!

So there you have it. The new chapter in the crazy life of the Kauffmans. I swear, I wonder sometimes why God sees our family as one that can just flip-flop all around. Here, move here. Ok, now go here and do this. And now I need you to go back where you started. Oh, and while you are there, start this. And by the way, now you need to pray for a house not only big enough to house the 5 of you, but one that also has room for your new business all within your budget. Ha ha! It scares me a bit...what on earth does He have planned a few years down the road? Well, whatever it is I'm ready. So far, so good!
