World's Collide

Only in YWAM...only since I became a part of the craziness that is YWAM have I had such random coincidences in my life. Meeting people who know other people in the strangest places is part of living that life. I've met people who know old friends while on an outreach on another continent. It never fails to blow my mind. Even now that I am out of YWAM, it still happens. My most recent is as follows:

Dave and Jen Laird are my oldest YWAM friends. Jen picked me up from the airport 10 years ago when I left home for scary LA to staff Mission Adventures. They took me to India on my first major cross-cultural experience, they know things about me, I led a team with Dave for three weeks, they invested in me a lot. I mean, they even named their first born after me (Drea, which was my nickname back then). We are close. So a few days ago I get their most recent newsletter telling me how Dave is going to El Salvador with Compassion to film some video stuff. And that is when my mind starting going into shock. You see, only three days before said newsletter I was in my small group and we prayed for one of our groupies who works for COMPASSION because he was going to EL SALVADOR to do some FILMING! Whoa! Collision!

I called Dave and Mark (small group guy) and confirmed that yes, indeed they were going on the same trip. As we speak (write/read) Dave is with Mark...and if I know Dave he is telling the most embarrassing stories about me he can come up with...and there are many. So, I sit here and ponder...how small is this world? In all of it's grandness it is not so big as we think. There will now be a new connection to Mark because of Dave...and so my circle grows. And in all of this all I can say is, Wow! How lucky am I to be living this life. Dave is from New Zealand. I never in a million years thought one of my closest friends would be a Kiwi...or a South African, or even a Floridian (you know who you are:)) God has truly blessed me to be living this crazy life and I would not have it any other way.

So, I hope Dave doesn't scare Mark away from Matt and I...and I can't wait to see what other craziness comes out of this life of mine!
