We left on a Friday afternoon and flew about 3.5 hours up over New England. It was a beautiful, scenic flight--minus the bumpy first half--there are so many trees and lakes. Once we arrived we went exploring and had a superb dinner of shrimp, clam chowder, and other seafood yummies at a lake-front restaurant. Very local. This is part of what I loved about this state. I could be swimming and relaxing at my cabin on the lake one day, and then I could drive 30 minutes to the ocean the next. The best of both worlds!!
Saturday was full of shopping in touristy Freeport, driving all over the place to find a decent beach, and trekking up to Boothbay Harbor to spend more time shopping. But the majority of our time was taken up by Matt and I's favorite vacation pasttime--eating. We love to try all sorts of restaurants when we go somewhere new. Nothing chain, all local. I highly recommend Boothbay as a place to go and spend some time. It was a beautiful harbor full of boats, shops, homes, and yummy restaurants.
Sunday we decided to hit the sky early because of thunderstorms that were happening near home. We needed to time it right so we wouldn't get caught in weather. We flew about 1.5 hours to Bridgeport, CT where we had lunch and then hopped in the courtesy car (yes, pilots have special perks!) and drove to New Haven to see Yale University. What a beautiful campus!! I will admit that part of me wanted to go because that is where Rory went to college on Gilmore Girls...sadly, the place looks nothing like it did on the show. You'd think they would have tried a bit harder to replicate it. Regardless, it was still amazing to see such beautiful, old buildings.
After our little layover we headed on home. We did get caught in a bit of a small storm cell that changed our flight plan a bit and caused me to send up some pretty intense prayers, but otherwise it was a fabulous weekend. It had been a long time since we had been away together and it was refreshing!! Thanks Fishers for a great trip!
And now, a slew of pictures...
Mark and Matt

This was my cute little salt-shaker,

Matt being a dork at L.L. Bean (it was huge by the way...the store, not the backpack),

This shall one day be my home...on the backside is the ocean,

Is this not the perfect location for a wedding?! We found this when we were driving around. The reception tent was set up just behind this,

Gettin' my sexy on...or better known as getting in the front seat because I was carsick,

Fab friends at a gorgeous lake,

YUM!! This is what Mary and I shared at the Tapas restaurant we hit up. Those garlic-infused olives were amazing!

But I didn't share this...silly, yes I did. So good and refreshing with chunks of mango!

Boothbay Harbor...there is my yacht across the way,

And again at sunset...breathtaking,

We finally got the boys their lobster...except Matt was too full from our other adventures to eat much,

Peeking in the library at Yale, it was huge in there!! Oh how I wish it would have been open...

Pausing to contemplate life at an Ivy League school...

Me and my love...enough said ; )

Ohms goodness I am jealous! It looks like you guys had so much fun. I am mostly jealous because of all this food talk! But also because of the beautifulness of Maine. Who knew? And that last picture is priceless!
And that was supposed to say "Oh my" instead of "Ohms." But I guess it sounds little more meditative the other way, right?
What a great trip! Super pics Andrea and I especially love the last one of you and your hubby! how cute!
Wow, am way behind and just found this. Looks like SO MUCH FUN! :) I miss you. I want to contemplate life at Yale and share food and steal your sangria. I also would like to get married at that little spot. Now, I just need a husband...
